Top 8 Wedding Venues in Berkshire: A Photographer’s Perspective

Being based right here near Newbury, I’ve had the privilege of shooting across Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and London, capturing couples in some truly spectacular locations. As a freelance photographer, my goal is always to deliver highly polished, timeless images—and a massive part of that comes down to the locations my couples choose.

1. The Post Barn (Newbury)

Situated right in my backyard in Newbury, The Post Barn is a dream for photographers. Unlike historic barns that can sometimes be dark, this venue was purpose-built with contemporary design in mind. The massive floor-to-ceiling windows flood the space with natural light, meaning I can capture incredibly clean, bright, and vibrant shots indoors without constantly battling shadows.

2. Wasing Park (Aldermaston)

Wasing Park is an incredibly diverse rural estate. It offers a stunning Castle Barn, a Victorian Summerhouse, and even a 15th-century Parish Church right on the grounds. The sweeping driveways and woodland paths provide phenomenal natural backdrops, especially during golden hour when the light filters beautifully through the trees.

3. Lillibrooke Manor (Maidenhead)

Tucked away in the countryside, Lillibrooke features a collection of historic barns arranged around a beautiful cobbled courtyard. The exposed brickwork and warm interior lighting give it a beautifully rustic, welcoming character. The courtyard acts as a natural sun trap during drinks receptions, making it effortless to capture warm, candid moments of guests celebrating.

4. Ufton Court (Reading)

Ufton Court is a Grade I listed manor house featuring a 16th-century timber-framed Tithe Barn. Historic barns can sometimes swallow natural light, but this is where having the right lighting gear changes the game. By strategically placing continuous LED lights and bouncing speedlites off the historic timber, I can maintain the moody, romantic atmosphere of the barn while ensuring the photos are crisp, vibrant, and perfectly exposed.

5. Oakley Court (Windsor)

If you want dramatic elegance, this is it. Oakley Court is a striking Victorian mansion sitting directly on the banks of the River Thames. The red-brick architecture and manicured lawns offer a grand, cinematic feel. Whether I'm shooting on my Sony or Canon systems, the massive windows inside the mansion let in gorgeous natural light that produces timeless, bright portraits.

6. Stanlake Park Wine Estate (Twyford)

A vineyard wedding right in Berkshire. Stanlake Park offers something entirely different with its sprawling vines and historic courtyard. The lines of the vineyard provide incredible leading lines for couple portraits, and the lush green tones of the estate render beautifully in post-production. It’s a very relaxed, natural environment that encourages spontaneous, unposed moments.

7. The Old Mill (Aldermaston)

For a more intimate, tranquil vibe, The Old Mill is steeped in traditional charm. Set beside the River Kennet, it features original oak beams, a water wheel, and panoramic river views. The gentle riverside setting creates very soft, romantic backgrounds, especially for evening portraits as the sun dips below the tree line.

8. Monkey Island Estate (Bray)

Accessible only by footbridge or boat, Monkey Island Estate is a private island on the Thames. The white-brick pavilions and surrounding water give it an exclusive, luxurious atmosphere. This is a venue where having a General Visual Line of Sight (GVC) license really pays off—putting the drone up to capture aerials of the private island and the flowing river provides an epic, sweeping sense of scale to a wedding gallery.
